Summary

There's a figure on the beach, gripping a cold box tight and gazing into the dark and eerily silent waves. It's Bucket, her true name lost to the drifting sands of time. Her existence is a curious one, she has no memory of her life before waking up on a lifeless, barren beach. Just a lingering feeling that something absolutely horrific must have happened and that she may have had something to do with it. She is on a journey to recover her lost memories and figure out what exactly happened ages ago on that blood soaked shore.

Having been a wanderer for an unknown measure of time, Bucket found herself upon the Rock of Bral working as a barmaid for a tavern known as the Laughing Beholder. Her strange psionic powers have more mundane uses in the world of customer service and table waiting--it's convienient not being limited to how many plates you can only carry within your arms. However, upon being hired by a gelatinous Captain Goupta as an assistant spelljammer upon his ship, Bucket was thrown one of the biggest curveballs of her current life. Having met an odd half elf after a run in with a damaged vessel, she and her newfound party have stumbled into a whole new world of the strange, mysterious, and truly bizzare.

Personality

Bucket is still very strange beyond her appearance. Her speech is dissonant. She stumbles and repeats her words and phrases, and is a bit... spacey. Pun intended. She is rather soft-spoken and a tad socially awkward, often prefering to try and talk things out before her much more trigger happy party members jump headfirst into turning things into a combat situation. However, just because she prefers a diplomatic approach to problems doesn't mean she'll refuse to put up a fight. Her psionic abilities can truly shine in the battlefield, and she is more than willing to quite literally detonate people's brains and dabble in mind control to turn the tides in her party's favor. She seems quite unphased by the aftermath of her messier methods of dispatching foes, and doesn't give the guts and gore much of a second thought. She also tends to take on the role of the group mom, often being the one to help shoulder responsibilities and keep other teammates in-check, ready to force grab them and pull them out of danger at a moment's notice. Ultimately, she does have a kind heart, even if it's no longer beating.

Trivia

  • Bucket was initially based on my very cheesy and shitposty honor mode run of DOS2 where I performed the art of Barrelmancy to cheese my way through the game (I threw a very heavy box at people to instantly win)
  • She is also inspired by Zoe from Monster Prom, Specimens 5 and 10 from SJM, Sotiris from Lost in Vivo, the Grebuloffs from FFXIV, and the vibes of the game Iron Lung and liminal spaces.

Design notes

  • Her full face is never visible. The most that can be seen is her left eye and eyebrow, everything else is void. Right eyebrow can be added under hair just to show expression if desired!
  • She has very long ears, which sit horizontally on her head.
  • Unclear where her hair ends and her tentacles begin.
  • Hair splits off into 4 distinct tentacles on the bottom. The outer two sit similar to very low pigtails while the center two are braided together.
  • Does have visible veins under her skin.
  • You know that kinda creepy hover all the mindflayers do in BG3? Yeah she can do that and prefers to hover slightly off the ground instead of just walking like a normal person. Freak.
  • Often has health potions strapped to her belt.
