Hi! Hi!!! Do you wanna hear about my super cool book im writing? You aren't allowed to say no!

Summary

Many folks imagine all Argonaughts to be horrifying eldritch monsters who only want to consume and spread some horrible sea born rot. Instead of doing whatever that entails, Tai is a child who likes ice cream and monster collecting games and talking the ears off of anyone who will listen. She is an amalgamation of aberrated slugs all sharing the same body and mind, cleaved together by scientists who wished to play god and unlock the secrets of seascorching. Having long since managed to slip away, she knows she'd rather be here than in the cold tanks she was made in.

Tai's true origins are a mystery. She is not a natural Argonaught (or at least as natural as one from the sea could be considered to be), instead being somewhere between someone's designer baby and a science project. Ever since her escape from the lab, she has been taken in by Tako, a much older naut who has taken the role of a father and guardian to her as she is much too young to survive on her own, especially in her current state. Curiously, her status as man-made appear to have left her with much stronger than average--though very unstable--magical ability. Time will tell if she continues to grow as normal or if her mysterious origins will have permanent, unprecedented side effects. Either way, she can at least live a much better life. Even if she must attend middle school.

Personality

Tai is, by all accounts, actually fairly normal for your average twelve year-old girl. And by normal, that actually means she is just as weird as said average twelve year-old girl. She is very energetic and extroverted, and absolutely loves to talk. She is, by her own admission, a professional yapper. She is also extremely creative, as her father's interest and pursuit of the arts has appeared to have rubbed off on her. She loves to draw and write, often carrying around journals of the stories she's made and doodling her own characters in the margins of her schoolwork. If it's not her own creative writing she's obsessing about, it's usually something to do with the myriad of virtual pet collecting games and toys she's interested in. She's the type of kid to have catalogued every single possible evolution for her current Tamagotchi. She doesn't like to sit still, and also struggles to pay attention when it comes to actual schoolwork and studies, much to the dismay of her father and teachers. Rest assured, though, since as soon as that school bell rings she is ready to hang out with her friends, talking about all their favorite games and books.

Trivia

  • Tai was inspired by me adopting a coral for the Dreadnauts June charity sale lol. She has since been voided and reworked, however.
  • Though her name is not a play on actual seafood, it is a play on taiyaki, a sweet Japanese fish-shaped cake often sold as streetfood.
  • She is made of at least four slugs and one fish in total, all sewn and amalgamated together into one entity, along with the bits of coral that have hitchhiked on her.

Design notes

  • Ears can emote! They are usually just kinda like :3 but they tend to match Tai herself if she's making a different expression
  • Her pupils are heart shaped
  • Likes to stick stickers to her face
  • Cream colored nacre tends to build on the surface of her tail and right ear. These growths appear as geometric patches of pearl
